Not just another snow day!
From March 7 – 10, 2017, the remote northern community of Churchill, Manitoba experienced a once in a lifetime blizzard event. Arctic winds whipped snowfall into 30 foot drifts that shut down all access to the community, preventing delivery of critical supplies and access to Emergency Medical Services. The scale of the emergency and the level of threat to human safety were greater than anyone had prepared for.
Join us at Disaster Forum 2017 to learn how the Churchill Health Centre continued to deliver services to acute care and long term residents throughout the storm and what actions were taken when its continuity plans failed. The presentation from Karen-Denise Cyr will explore the importance of partnerships in response and recovery efforts and preparedness tips to increase resilience in extreme weather events.
