Who We Are
Disaster Conferences Inc. is the planning body behind the annual Disaster Forum Conferences. Building from the solid foundation we established with our 1998, 2000 and 2002 conferences, Disaster Conferences is committed to making the Disaster Forum a permanent part of the emergency preparedness landscape in Canada. Our long-term commitment and proven formula for success will provide disaster recovery planning, business continuity, crisis communications and emergency preparedness professionals and practitioners with continuous learning opportunities in crisis mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.
Disaster Forum brings together renowned keynote speakers and diverse disciplinary sessions that deliver current and practical information in many disciplines. There are plenty of formal and informal opportunities for delegates to share, network and learn. Leading experts look at upcoming issues and trends in the industry and share their experiences, perspectives and lessons learned from past events. Access to conference workshops and social activities round out Disaster Forum and ensure delegates have a worthwhile and pleasant conference experience.
Disaster Forum began as a group of volunteers in Edmonton, Alberta planning and delivering a conference on emergency management in 1998. The success of this event spurred ongoing conferences that were planned in alternate years and took place in Edmonton and Calgary. In 2005, the volunteer board was disbanded and the conference delivery was assumed by Disaster Conferences Inc. a registered Not for Profit corporation in Alberta. Since 2006, the conference has been held annually at the Banff Center in Banff, Alberta. Disaster Forum continues to be recognized as one of, if not the leading conference on emergency management and business continuity in Canada.

The goals of Disaster Forum are specifically to:
Provide a vehicle for knowledge transfer and,
Promote professional development within the emergency management and business continuity fields.
The emergency management field is growing and expanding as society becomes more complex and as populations increase. There is a critical need for those that have had the “experience” to pass on their lessons learned and their updated emergency management practices to those individuals who have not had the benefit (and cost) of this experience.
Disaster Forum is planned and organized to accomplish this through a combination of:
Quality key note and break out speakers from around the world,
Planned common meals where networking is encouraged and further speakers are engaged,
Planned social events in the evenings to further encourage networking and,
Live demonstration exercises and events, (when possible). In the past, these have included full scale exercises, Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) exercises, and technology demonstrations – such as the Alberta Emergency Warning System.
Disaster Forum is proud to have been recognized by both the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) and Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (CRSP) organizations.
Disaster Forum also offers ten (10) annual bursaries of $400 to qualified Canadian individuals who successfully achieve the CEM designation. For more information see below.
As a part of Disaster Conferences' commitment to developing professionalism in the field of Emergency Management, a bursary program is being offered to Canadian residents who successfully complete the Certified Emergency Management program through IAEM.
The program is designed to reimburse up to ten (10) candidates each year for the cost of certification with IAEM.
